Salt Intake Linked to Hypertension

The FDA claims about 90% of Americans consume more salt than is recommended, the daily limit of 2300mg. The American Heart Association suggests an even lower limit of 1500mg/day. The graph above courtesy of the CDC shows that as many as 1 in 5 Americans actively suffers from hypertension.

A new article suggests an adult diet of less than 2000mg sodium per day is ideal for preventing high blood pressure. With salt intake skyrocketing in the developed world, it’s more important than ever that we watch we eat–especially in regards to salty packaged and prepared foods. Read more on IOL.
